On a smaller and more local scale, my wife (also a Rosemary) and I have the same situation. Our anniversary is 7th July and 2005 was our 26th. It wasn’t quite the same as the world-shattering of 9/11, but significant nontheless, and we too can never quite view the day in the same way.

I remember standing in our living room at ‘number 10′, not quite believing what I was watching. I also remember how the faith communities responded in Walthamstow, instant and clear statements of mutual rejection of the acts of terror, and a resolve that the multi-culture of Walthamstow would be a forum through which people could work through the shock and pain together.
I also remember a certain Anglican minister making it quite clear that anyone intending to make concrete the rumours of ‘retaliation’ against mosques would have to go through him 1st…
I hope that you and Rosemary have a happy anniversary this year.
